I might get it, but I have read stories of this game burning out 8800 GT video cards. That is what I am currently running with no prospect of getting a newer card in the near future. I am not sure what causes the game to burn out a vid card, but I am not willing to chance it. Any ideas or comments?

i have not heard of this. i doubt the game is burning the card out. maybe people have poor air flow in their computer would be my guess. hey ed video cards are pretty cheap now a days. i'm running a gtx 9800 512 mb i bought for less than 200 bucks a yr. and a half ago. yeah some of the high end cards are up there of course.
but the game is pretty good so far. where have you read the stories on this?
i have a couple 8800 GT's that i'm not using. LOL.

I found out when I was looking for another EVGA 8800GT Superclocked card. A few of the Google hits went to forums that had threads indicating 8800 cards were bein "fried" by playing MW2. I don't see how a game can be so video intense that it would cook a card. My card will play Crysis on high settings. Is MW2 more graphically intense than Crysis? I mean, there could be other explanations for this, such as poor ventilation, older card, wrong drivers, etc. I would think the game would say if the 8800 cards were not supported. Anyway, I kinda wanted to try the 8800 in SLI BEFORE I have to go get a Ge 295 or the like.

Well, I checked the specs for the game. Min recommended card is GeForce 7800!! Recommended card is GT 260 or Radeon 4870. I guess I could go ATI if I only want to run 1 card. It seems the 8800 is in the middle range and should run the game. The only way to find out is to get the beta and run it, I guess. Prolly not any more keys out there, though. I will probably wait until my upgrade to my new case is done before I mess with this. I'm moving to a 500GB hd from a 160GB, adding another 500GB drive and putting it all in a new CoolerMaster HAF 932 case, with a new 850 watt CoolerMAx PSU. I will put up pics when it's done. My other clan is going to have a BFBC2 server when the game comes out. If you want I'll get you the IP as soon as I know it. You can expect fair play and good admins on it (I'll probably be one.) We tend to gt rid of asshats and smacktards real quick on our BF2 server, and I don't expect it to be any different on the new server. I really miss you guys. I have talked to Sarge a couple of times, but can't seem to connect with DM or you, Chris. Trooper

yep i'm ready for this game to come out. it has a hardcore mode which means no 2 shots from a sniper rifle to kill someone and no half a mag to kill someone either other than a head shot.

The wonderful folks who put out Modern Warfare 2 have shit on the pc players, they want us to play like we are on consoles. There are no dedicated servers, the players host the game. It is almost impossible to play with your buds, so no clans and no real competition. Many many other crippling things. Many in the pc community have boycotted it. Chris and I have been playing the beta release of Bad Company 2 for a couple of weeks. It has promise of being a good game. The final is due out the beginning of March. Hope all is well in Las Vegas. I actually returned a copy of Modern Warfare 2 last week for the same reasons DM stated. I want my copy of Bad Company 2, but I will have to wait until March.

I meant BFBC2, not MW2, was "burning out cards. It seems the only way I'll be playing this game is to upgrade to Vista or go for Win7, neither of which appeals to me at this time. Don't know what to do at this point. Can't really afford to upgrade to 7, but maybe I can get a cheap copy of Vista for now. I'll have to check.

OK, then I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the info.
DM, so far everything is fine here. Jo Ann has to get an MRI on her shoulders, her DR thinks she might have rotator cuff problems. I'll let you know more when we do.

Got the game from GameStop on Thursday, played BF2 until 3am. Installed BC2 and played singleplayer mode 'til 10am Friday. Great game so far and a good single player game, very immersive. Will try MP, probably Sunday morning. If it's this good on XP & DX9, I can only imagine what it looks like on DX10 or 11.
